Honda’s BF135 delivers seamless performance and optimum power for a smooth and enjoyable boating experience. Based on the same reliable engine that powers the globally-popular Honda Accord, it has been manufactured with the world’s most innovative, efficient and reliable technology.
The Honda BF135 outboard engine develops 133.1hp at 5500rpm with a WOT rev range of 5000-6000rpm. The 2354cc in-line four-cylinder engine has DOHC actuation for the 16 valves, which are driven by chain. This is important because it's an interference engine.
The only belt drive is for the 40A voltage-regulated alternator, which produces 30A at 1000rpm. Twin counter-rotating balance shafts virtually eliminate harmonic vibration and the gear ratio is a usefully low 2.14:1. The extra-longshaft (25in) model has a dry weight of 221kg.
The dual-stage induction is a carry-over from when the engine was first released almost a decade ago. This system lengthens the air intake flow to increase low-rpm torque, then switches to a shorter passage at 4000rpm to improve top-end power.
Blast and ECOmo are more recent addition on the Honda BF135 outboard motor. Boosted low-speed torque advances the ignition timing and, combined with the richer air / fuel ratio (12:1), increases bottom-end torque for less holeshot lag. Once the hull is planing, the air / fuel ratio leans out to 18:1 on ECOmo mode, going back to 14.7:1 as the engine approaches WOT.
MINIMUM CONSUMPTION
The high horsepower range consume up to 50% less fuel than conventional two-stroke engines, thanks to Honda’s exclusive Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) and Lean Burn Control systems.
These advanced systems optimize the air/fuel mixture to ensure maximum performance out of every drop.
- ‘On Demand’ 90amp, belt-driven alternator reduces heat build-up and provides superior battery charging capability – 48amp at trolling speed!
- 4-Front Corrosion Protection. A patented, ‘double-sealed’ multi-layered paint process. Additional sacrificial anodes have been added to the engine and stainless steel technology, along with waterproof connectors, all enhance corrosion protection.
CUTTING-EDGE ADVANTAGES
Honda’s BF135 delivers seamless performance and optimum power for a smooth and enjoyable boating experience. Based on the same reliable engine that powers the globally-popular Honda Accord, the BF135 has been manufactured with the world’s most innovative, efficient and reliable technology.

A range of Honda-exclusive technologies such as BLAST, ECOmo as well as an updated Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) System topped off with the ‘Best in Class’ Charging Performance, it is no surprise that the all new BF75 is truly packed with power!
This is some of Honda's most advanced technology in the 75 HP 4-stroke outboard from the Honda legendary lineup. Extremely lightweight design and features Honda's VTEC technology giving you the best mix of power, torque and fuel efficiency.
BLAST
Honda’s revolutionary Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST™) technology boosts engine torque at low RPM under rapid acceleration.
BLAST™ traces the air/fuel ratio that results in the maximum torque for each engine revolution, while simultaneously tracing the maximum knock limit ignition timing that can be obtained using a rich air/fuel ratio in the full throttle zone and advances the ignition timing to the limit, in order to produce greater torque.
This boost in horsepower and torque at low rpm contributes to strong hole shot performance to get the hull up on plane quickly!
ECOMO
Along with Honda’s Programmed Fuel Injection, the BF75 incorporates Lean Burn Control technology, which allows combustion to operate on a leaner air/fuel ratio than stoichiometric air/fuel.
An O2 sensor, together with the ECM, precisely controls the air/fuel mixture for the best fuel economy at cruise setting. The mode in which lean burn control is used during cruising to achieve higher fuel economy is referred to as ECOmo (Economy Controlled Motor).
BEST IN CLASS CHARGING
The BF75 has the best in class charging performance with a 44-amp alternator. This means your outboard is now able to charge the battery faster and power more accessories, so that you can now run that little bit of extra tech on the boat to help find the perfect catch.
ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION (EFI)
With an upgraded ECU the BF75 has the latest in Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) technology. This ensures that fuel is delivered to the engine in a highly efficient and precisely measured manner. Meaning that the exact amount of fuel is delivered at the perfect time; this guarantees that the engine will run smoother at peak performance while also burning significantly less fuel.
NMEA2000
Honda is wired for the future; this is why the new outboards come standard with NMEA2000 connectivity. Equipment designed to the NMEA2000 standard has the ability to share and display data, including commands and status with other compatible equipment over a single channel.

Compared to some of its newer competition, the Honda BF90 outboard motor is very light on piston displacement. Straight from the Jazz car, the high-revving engine has VTEC or variable intake valve timing that operates only above 5200rpm, so pushing hefty loads is definitely not what this marine engine was designed to do.
Combine this complexity with BLAST and ECOmo technology and you’ll have to develop a very good relationship with your local outboard mechanic! BLAST increases the air/fuel ratio from the normal 14.7:1 to 12:1 for better holeshot performance. ECOmo leans out the ratio to 18:1 under moderate load conditions, such as when the hull is planing cleanly in the 2000 to 4500rpm range and depending on the throttle opening. Above this, the air/fuel ratio reverts to 14.7:1.
So to get the best from the small, complex outboard motor that is the Honda BF90, it should only be fitted to hulls such as lightweight bass boats that plane easily and allow the engine to rev right out.

A SHINING LIGHT
The updated BF100 comes packed full of features that draw on Honda’s unparalleled history as an engine manufacturer.
Powered by the same engine that runs one of Honda’s best-selling cars, the ‘Jazz’, the BF100’s pedigree cannot be questioned.
A range of Honda-exclusive technologies combine to deliver exceptional power, superior environmental performance and best-in-class fuel economy.
FUTURISTIC FEATURES
Developed for Honda’s high-performance F1 sport cars, VTEC varies the lift and duration of the intake valves to provide optimum performance both at low and high rpm.
VTEC delivers at low speeds, smooth stable idling with reduction in fuel consumption, while the increased valve lift at higher speeds broadens the torque curve and top end power.
ECONOMIC POWER
Along with Honda’s Programmed Fuel Injection, the BF100 incorporates Lean Burn Control technology, which allows combustion to operate on a leaner air/fuel ratio than stoichiometric air/fuel.
An O2 sensor, together with the ECM, precisely controls the air/fuel mixture for the best fuel economy at cruise setting. The mode in which lean burn control is used during cruising to achieve higher fuel economy is referred to as ECOmo (Economy Controlled Motor).
BLAST TECHNOLOGY
Honda’s revolutionary Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST) technology boosts engine torque at low RPM under rapid acceleration.
BLAST traces the air/fuel ratio that results in the maximum torque for each engine revolution, while simultaneously tracing the maximum knock limit ignition timing that can be obtained using a rich air/fuel ratio in the full throttle zone and advances the ignition timing to the limit, in order to produce greater torque
This boost in horsepower and torque at low rpm contributes to strong hole shot performance to get the hull up on plane quickly!
