The Shimano Calcutta reel has ruled the Australian market in terms of drum style baitcasting reels for over two decades now. The longevity of the Calcutta design has been based on the philosophy of producing quality products. With the call from anglers for a larger capacity drum style reel the Shimano Calcutta 700b Baitcasting Fishing Reel was born.

New features for the Shimano Calcutta Reels include A-RB (Anti-Rust Bearings) that are 10 times more corrosion resistant than standard stainless bearings, VBS (Variable Brake System) for increased casting control and distance, Cold Forged Aluminum Frame, and Sideplates resulting in the strongest, tightest tolerances for unmatched smoothness and durability and Shimanos Dartainium Drag System providing the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.

The newly upgraded multi-disc carbon drag is another huge upside of the Shimano Calcutta Baitcasting 700b Fishing Reel. This drag system helps to distribute heat in the drag evenly and produces very high drag pressures when needed.

Shimano added the CT-700 to their Calcutta series of baitcasting reels in 1996. This larger model found immediate acceptance with many salmon anglers who cast a line for the “King of Fishes” in the surf at the mouths of the South Island’s big east coast rivers.

The CT-700 has a massive line capacity. It can hold: Pounds/yards:
17/420, 20/310, 25/240.

That’s a generous load of line. It isn’t all needed to fight a salmon, its purpose is to prevent the line spool’s diameter from being significantly reduced as the line is peeled off during the cast. This results in much longer casts being possible.

Basically designed for saltwater fishing, Shimano has added several upgrades to the Calcutta 700b to cope up with the extreme amount of punishment saltwater dishes out to any fishing reel. With anodized body and spool, this reel has a longer lifespan than most saltwater reels.

Also, with a larger handle design and rubber grips, the Shimano Calcutta 700b is famed for its ease of use. Aided by Super Stopper and Assist Stopper, this reel also has three of Shimano’s patented A-RB Bearings smoothly, as well as on a one roller bearing.
